Team Forms, Forms, and Point Sparring

NOTE: Forms will be adjusted to accommodate all styles.  Divisions may be added or combined at the tournament director's discretion if they are too large or too small.

Novice: 10-7 KUP
Intermediate: 6-4 KUP
Advanced: 3-1 KUP

Awards

Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each division.  All athletes 13 & Under will receive a participation ribbon.  A sportsmanship award will be awarded to the school or individual for overall contribution to the tournament; including participation, judging and good sportsmanship.

Competition Information

Appearance

All Athletes must wear a clean uniform.  School uniforms with patches will be allowed.  For safety, please make sure all finger and toenails are trimmed.  No jewelry will be allowed.

Team Forms

Groups consisting of 2-4 competitors will perform a form together. Team forms will be scored the same as individual forms. The division will be determined by the highest ranking competitor within the group.

Forms

Forms will be judged by a panel of judges.  Each judge will score the form from 5.0 - 10.0 points with 7.5 being average.  If the score shows a tie, the form will be repeated.

Point Sparring

Equipment - Point Sparring contestants must wear headgear, mouth guard, gloves, boots or foot gear and a groin protector (for males). Shin insteps and forearm guards are optional.

Scoring - Match will be decided by first contestant to 5 points or 2 minutes whichever occurs first.

Format - Point sparring will be conducted under light-contact. The legal target areas consist of the part of the head covered by the headgear and the part of the body from the collarbone to the navel in the front and under the armpits forward. No facial contact is allowed. No contact to the back, including the back of the head. One point will be awarded for any legal hand technique to the valid head or body area, one point for legal foot technique to the valid body area, and two points will be awarded for any legal foot technique to the valid head area.

Warnings, Point Deductions & Disqualifications - One warning per infraction will be issued per match. The next infraction will result in a full one (1) point deduction. Any further infraction will result in immediate disqualification from that match. Arguing with the referee or judges, violent behavior and/or inappropriate language will be grounds for disqualification as well as expulsion from the tournament.

Infractions include: kicking or punching illegal target areas, using invalid techniques, excessive contact in point sparring, pushing, holding, throwing, attacking from the ground, stalling & running out of bounds to avoid contact. The tournament director has final say over any rule interpretation or procedural problems. Anything not covered in these rules will be decided by the tournament director.

Causing excessive swelling or bleeding will be grounds for immediate disqualification.
