Torch Run

Brought to you by: U.S. Bank

In 1987, Iowa became the first state to use the United States Olympic Committee's flame for a statewide torch run. That same flame will be carried by runners from all walks of life for the Summer Iowa Games' annual torch run.

The torch run will begin in Des Moines on Friday, July 16, covering a 3 mile loop around through downtown and around the Iowa State Capitol.  The torch will return to Ames for a loop through downtown and the campus of Iowa State University. The journey will culminate with the lighting of the Olympic-style cauldron at Jack Trice Stadium during the Opening Ceremony later that evening.

Torch carriers will run on hard-surface roads in both Des Moines and Ames. Applicants will receive details in the mail after returning their application to the Iowa Games office. All runners will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Runners under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

If you would like to carry the torch in the run, please register online or download the registration form below and return it to the Iowa Games office or contact the Iowa Games at info@iowasportsfoundation.org.
