Competition Format
There will be two racing classifications for the downhill skiing event(s) at Sundown Mountain. These classifications will be an Open Class and a Citizen Class. Each event, Slalom and Giant Slalom, will include two (2) runs through the race course. The winners in each event and each age group will be determined by the combined times of the two (2) runs.
Citizen Class: Athletes in this class will be skiers with little or no racing experience. They will participate in a Giant Slalom race on Saturday, January 29, prior to the Open Class race. This category is not open to people with NASTAR handicaps of 35 or lower. Athletes who register for Citizen Class are not eligible to race in Open Class. Any athlete who falsely enters this category will be disqualified.
Open Class: Athletes in this class are people who have racing experience or those athletes who are paid to ski. Athletes who register for Open Class are not eligible to race in Citizen Class.
Age Determining Date
January 1, 2012
United States Ski Association rules will apply. Athletes are encouraged to wear protective helmets during competition.
Awards
Awards ceremony will follow the days last event in the upper level of the South Lodge as quickly as the judges tabulate the scoring. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each event and age class. Please note that no medals will be mailed out after the Games. It is the responsibility of the athlete to obtain any medal prior to departing the competition site.
