Torch Run

In 1987, Iowa became the first state to use the United States Olympic Committee's flame for a statewide torch run. That same flame will be carried by runners from all walks of life for the Summer Iowa Games' annual torch run.

The torch run begins in Des Moines on Friday of the main weekend of the Summer Games covering a 3 mile loop around downtown and the Iowa State Capitol. The torch will return to Ames for a loop through downtown and the campus of Iowa State University. The journey will culminate with the lighting of the Olympic-style cauldron at Jack Trice Stadium during the Opening Ceremony later that evening.

Finals Fest

Finals Fest takes place prior to the Opening Ceremony in the Iowa State Cetner parking lot, north of Jack Trice Stadium. Athletes can enjoy a meal, inflatable slides, interactive games and entertainment. Admission is free.

Iowa Army National Guard

The Iowa Games is formally opened for competition with the Opening Ceremony on Friday night of the main weekend of the Summer Games. The event is an exciting way for the whole family to share in the pageantry of the Games. The event includes an Olympic style parade of athletes, skydivers, entertainment, keynote speaker and fireworks.

Sunday Chapel Service

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) holds a chapel service on Sunday morning of the main weekend of the Games. The service is open to all participants, parents and volunteers.
