When & where will the games be in 2010?

The 2010 Winter Iowa Games were held Jan. 22, Jan. 29-31 in Dubuque and Feb. 12-14 in Cedar Rapids, while the 2010 Summer Iowa Games will be held in Ames and surrounding communities during June and July.

Who is eligible to compete in the Iowa Games?

An athlete must be a resident of the state of Iowa for at least 30 days immediately prior to the first day of competition. College students and military personnel who usually reside in Iowa or attend an Iowa school just prior to the Games also are eligible.

Illinois residents are allowed to compete in the Iowa Games.

Age and skill level requirement are established by each sport's governing body. The age determining date is sport specific; refer to each individual sport page. People with disabilities will compete with able-bodied athletes when qualifying scores and ability levels are comparable.

How do I enter an individual sport?

1. Go to the specific sport's page. Note the events that are offered.

2. Choose the event(s) you want to enter. Note that competition will be for males and females, separately, unless otherwise stated.

3. Click on the link at the bottom of the sport page and ENTER ONLINE or open to the center of the booklet. Use the SHEET that is the INDIVIDUAL ENTRY FORM/WAIVER. If necessary, this form can be duplicated both front and back. The entry form also is available on this Web site.

4. COMPLETE EACH SECTION OF THE FORM AND SIGN THE WAIVER ON THE BACK. Use the Event Code(s) on the sport page to indicate which events you want.

5. If you are entering doubles table tennis, please indicate your partner's name. Each athlete must also complete and mail an entry form and entry fee.

6. Make your check or money order payable to the Iowa Games. PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH! Insufficient funds checks are subject to a $15.00 service charge.

7. Send or hand deliver by the respective deadline, the completed Individual Entry Form, Team Form (if needed) and entry fees to the Iowa Games office.

8. Information regarding National Governing Body membership, where required, is indicated on the respective sport page. Any membership fees are to be sent to the indicated organization.

How do I enter a team sport?

Note the deadlines!!! Enter early; some sports are filled by the deadline!

1. Click on the link at the bottom of the sport page and ENTER ONLINE or each player must complete the Player Information section on the Iowa Games TEAM FORM. NO INDIVIDUAL ENTRY FORMS NEED TO BE FILLED OUT! Team entry forms can be copied if teams need more individual player spaces.

2. Entry fees vary from sport to. To speed processing - ENTER ONLINE or PLEASE SEND ONE CHECK OR MONEY ORDER PER TEAM!

3. If a coach wants a T-shirt, complete a Player Information section on the Team Form and write "COACH" next to it. The fee is $5.00 ($6.00 XXL).

4. A player can only play on one team in a given sport.

5. ENTER ONLINE, SEND OR HAND DELIVER THE TEAM FORM AND THE CORRECT ENTRY FEES TOGETHER TO THE IOWA GAMES OFFICE.

6. Each team must have a coach who is at least 18 years old. The "Team Contact" cannot be a minor (under age 18).

7. The maximum number of teams accepted in each sport may be adjusted at the discretion of the Iowa Games staff.

What if I want to change my team roster?

Roster limits will be enforced for all sports.  Please visit your sport's page to see sport specific dates for Roster Changes and Additions.

What if I want to enter more than one sport?

Athletes are discouraged from entering more than one sport due to various formats and the possible overlapping of schedules. Athletes who do enter more than one sport do so at their own risk. No refunds or schedule changes will be made to accommodate multi-sport athletes. Note that each sport has its own entry fee; please refer to each sport's page for the correct amount.

Where is T-shirt/ Packet Pick-Up?

Summer Games athletes will check in at the tents in the parking lot (B-6) north of Jack Trice Stadium. Athletes are encouraged to check in prior to reporting for their event. During check in, athletes will receive their t-shirts, athlete packets, direction to sport venues, and final instructions.

SUMMER GAMES ON-SITE T-SHIRT PICK-UP SPORTS: The following sports will only be able to pick-up their T-shirts and athlete packets on-site: The following sports will only be able to pickup their T-shirts and athlete packets on-site: Baseball (Adult), BMX, Bowling, Canoe/Kayak, Cycling Tour Ride, Dodgeball, Diving, Electronic Darts, Equestrian, Figure Skating, Flag Football, Golf Juniors, Golf Par 3, Golf Best Shot, Handball, Mountain Biking, Road Race, Sand Volleyball, Satellite Trapshoot, Soccer (Senior), Softball (Adult), Strongman, Tennis (Juniors), Triathlon, Ultimate, Water Skiing, and Wrestling.
 

Winter Games athletes will pick-up their t-shirts and athlete packets at their venue.

What do I do regarding Inclement Weather/Rainouts?

Sports using outdoor sites are weather dependent. Competition will be conducted unless the sport commissioner, facility managers or Iowa Sports Foundation staff determine the weather conditions to be potentially dangerous or life threatening, or if playing fields would incur significant damage. The Iowa Sports Foundation reserves all rights to change competition format, schedules or locations depending upon the situation. There will be no refunds for events canceled due to weather.

What is the Sportsmanship/Conduct policy?

Unsportsmanlike and/or inappropriate conduct on the part of athletes, coaches and spectators will not be tolerated by the Iowa Sports Foundation. Inappropriate or unsportsmanlike conduct may result in immediate removal and disqualification from current and future competitions. Pella Corporation is proud to sponsor sportsmanship awards that will be given to team(s) in each sport division.

What are the Awards for the Iowa Games?

Olympic-style gold, silver and bronze medallions will be awarded in all sports, with the exception of Cycling Tour Ride and Fitness walk/Volkswalk, which are non-competitive events. Regional medals will ONLY be given in bowling. Please note that no medals will be mailed out after the Games. It is the responsibility of the athlete to obtain any medal prior to departing the competition site.

What is the Privacy and Refund Policy?

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Our site is a safe environment for anyone who visits and registers through our secure server. We use the information we collect about you to process registrations and to provide a more personalized experience.

What information do we collect and how is it used?
When you register, we need to know your name, mailing address, e-mail address, phone number, credit card number and expiration date (online registration). This allows us to process your registration and notify you of your registration status.

How is you information protected?
When you register, we offer the use of a secure server. The secure server software (SSL) encrypts all information you input before it is sent to us. Furthermore, all of the customer data we collect is protected against unauthorized access.

Will the information collected be disclosed to outside parties?
We do not sell or rent your personal information to others.

Refund Policy
There will be NO refunds of entry fees for events canceled due to weather or other acts of nature.

The only exceptions to the no-refund policy are:

  • Entries received after the maximum number has been accepted.
  • Entries received in a division that is cancelled due to minimal entries.
  • Entries of non-qualified participants.
  • Entries received after the deadline.

A $5.00 processing fee will be assessed to all refunds.

NO REFUND WILL BE PERMITTED BECAUSE AN ENTRANT FAILS TO PARTICIPATE OR IS REMOVED FROM COMPETITION.
